Giovanni VS Magnus: Chapter 2: Quests: 1-3

Salutations and all that bubbly stuff!

Zynga has a new update for us as they gear up to roll out February's Valentine's Day event. It's going to be a long one. In-between the mini-quest for Giovanni's Contraption will be rolling out slowly to players. If you get it, try your best to complete it for those extra workshop boosts. We will need as many as we can get!

This is why you shouldn't argue when you're smashed over tea...wait, what?

Things of note:

We are working toward earning 5 Trail Kitchen boosts.

Players must be Level 17 and have both Giovanni & Magnus unlocked.

Some of the crafted event items will not show up in your vault. Instead they are placed in a invisible storage place and won't add to our vault space. Make sure that if you are hunting a particular event item that you have the corresponding quest active.

If you've already completed a quest then press 'repeat' on that quest to re-activate it.

This is a time limited quest. We have a few days per quest to complete each step. In total, it will be about 12 days in all.

The quest is broken up into various chapters that unlock over time. There is a countdown timer on the progress bar to see how much time is remaining to complete all of the quests. Unfortunately, if you do not complete all of the quests before the time runs out, you will not earn the 5 boosts for the kitchen.

Chapter II: Quest 1 - A Tinkerer’s Wit IV of VI

Whoever thought honey could be used as a glue...

Welcome back! We're continuing onward with Giovanni's quest to create a super telescope capable of seeing beyond the stars. Our task involves creating telescope lenses, collecting crystallized honey, as well as sending Giovanni off to the Dragon Ruin Place of Legend.

I choose you Buttercup!

Go ahead and send off Giovanni to the Dragon Ruin right off the bat. If you have no Fast Foot spells it'll be a while before he comes back. If you do have Fast Foot spells it's up to you if you'd like to have him return quick. Just remember we are on a timer!

I'm surprised these are somewhat cheap Good job Zynga!

The telescope lenses will come from harvesting Adamant ore. Hit your mine and be prepared to either wait out the time or use Quick spells to hasten the timer. The drop rate on the lenses are about 75%.

One beehive or two - the drop rate is still blaaah

Edit: Zynga has recently fixed the rate of drop on the honey beehives. If you'd like to be certain if the new drop rates are affecting your kingdom then simply pick up your beehive and move it to a different spot.

In order to find the Crystallized Honey - you need a beehive. I will now let you know that it's a terrible drop rate. The rate of course is different for everyone because it's based on RNG(random number generator) but various tests had me chucking out at least 150 honey before getting all my crystallized honey. If you want to use quick spells it is your choice of course but I would save your quick spells(as I firmly believe it worsens the drop rates on the special items) and wait out the timer to collect your honey.  With the new drop rate in place it's now a good idea to use your quick spells to speed up the process.

Tip: Also, if you happen to have any extra on hand do not toss them out or sell. We will need the crystallized honey later on for other quests. And yes, the candle wax continues to drop as well. :<

Once the lenses, honey, and exploration are completed we are awarded with 1400 XP for our efforts. Time to move on to the next step!

Chapter II: Quest 2 - A Tinkerer’s Wit V of VI

Ahhh edible glue. What a genius you are Giovanni

Now that we have collected our lenses we need a place to put them. It's up to us to help Giovanni create a lens holder at the Gadget Shoppe. Meanwhile we are sending out the crazy engineer to the Dragon's Clutch as well as baking up his edible glue.

Dragon's Clutch:
Gather your two ladders and camping tent to send off Giovanni to the Dragon's Cluth. Send him off as soon as you are able. Meanwhile we'll start on our Lens Holder and Tyrant Glue.

Here's hoping you didn't toss anything out

In order to craft the Lens Holder you need a gadget shoppe 

A Lens Holder requires:
5 Adamant Ore
2 Molten Rivets(You create these from a Lava Hammer and 4 Adamant Ore)
2 Molten Bolts (A drop from sending Giovanni to Mount Cinder)

1 hour total of crafted time

Curse you crystallized honey...curse you

Off to the Bakery to craft Tyrant's Glue(which according to Gio is totally edible).

In order to craft the Tyrant's Glue you need a Bakery 

A Tyrant's Glue requires:
4 Adamant Ore
3 Crystallized Honey(Random drop from a Beehive)
5 Chili Peppers(You need a Volcanic Pepper field from the Resouces tab in Market)

However we need three Tyrant's Glue to complete the objective of the quest. In total we will need:
12 Adamant Ore
9 Crystallized Honey
15 Chili Peppers

4 hours 30 minutes total of crafted time

Tip: If you happen to come across a shortage of crystallized honey --

Boooo for making us repeat quests just for a item to drop!

Despite not throwing anything but regular honey away. I was short a few crystallized honey to make my third Tyrant's glue. If this happens in your case(and no alliance to help out or none on global to buy) you are going to have to repeat a particular quest for the crystallized honey to drop from your beehive again. I've marked on the picture above which quest it is that you need to repeat.

Silly Magnus, it may be edible but it's still glue!

Once our tasks are completed we are awarded with 1500 XP. Good job!


Chapter II: Quest 3 - A Tinkerer’s Wit VI of VI

What happened to the 'more than the stars' telescope, Gio?

Hello, welcome back! We are on the last bit of Giovanni's portion of the questline. Our first task is to finally create the whole telescope. The telescope creation process is another time consumer clocking in at 8 hours of craft time.

More lenses, more glue....oh poo =.=

Off to the Gadget Shoppe to craft Giovanni's telescope.

In order to craft the telescope you need a Gadget Shoppe 

Giovanni's Telescope requires:
7 Telescope Lens (Gathered from the Adamant Mine)
2 Lens Holders (Created in the Gadget Shoppe)
6 Tyrant's Glue (Created at the Bakery)

The telescope itself with all the mats are 8 hours of crafted time.

Star Maps have a far better drop rate than Crystallized Honey.

Our second task is to collect Star Maps from Giovanni's home. This means you'll have to take the brass ingots and hope for the star map to drop. Luckily it's a far better rate of drop than the crystallized honey. Hurray for small victories!

Please drop that cleanser orb...oh please oh please!

Finally, we close off the quest by sending off Giovanni to Mount Cinder.

Black pearls x 2, yay!

Once you finished the quest you'll be awarded the weekly prize which are two black pearls.

Enough wit and Glue you mean....

Congratulations Royals! You've concluded the first half of the Giovanni VS Magnus Event quest-line. The second portion with Magnus will be filled with beard comb hunts, forest charm necklace creating, and taking our resident wizard to various Places of Legends.
