The River Maid Event: Phase Two

Update: June 12th, 2014: A hot fix has been added that cuts the amount of Frog Oil needed. The drop rate of Frog Oil has also been changed to 100% instead of the 25% chance it had originally.

Zynga kicks off June with a special quest: The River Maid Event. This walk-through guides you from start to finish of Phase Two. As I complete the final phase of the questline I will put up the corresponding tutorial as well. A TD:LR version of the River Maid Event Phase Two guide can be found if you scroll to the bottom. It basically lists all the max counts for the ingredients that you will need to gather.

Ula seems to be a prissy fish with that pose, eh?

We last left off with Captain Pym attempting to transform Ula's tail into human legs. The various methods we tried did not work in the least. What's next? Change Captain Pym into a merman of course!

New quest time

Check your Royal Quest Log for the new quest-line or click on Magnus' house(the purple hut) to bring up the quests. From the picture you can tell we are about to visit the Gate of Luck...

River frogs...it will be the thorn in your side for quite a while.

Ula explained earlier that we are to collect River Frogs for their magical oil. Here, we are introduced to the main ingredient for all things(River Frogs) as well as the first crafted item(Frog Oil Carrot Cake) that we can make with it.

The elusive Frog Oil

Tip 1: A few things to know about River Frogs. This particular ingredient is grueling to get. Although the drop rate is incredibly low it is not impossible.

Update: Frog Oil is no longer a grueling drop rate and quite easy to acquire now.

Yvette and Leif are a good combo

They can bring ice, clover, and very rarely, gold lock.

Tip 2:  Depending on the amount of time on your hands --- 

Due to the new changes simply send your heroes to Gateway of Luck.

Hardcore: For the players that have ample time or can use their mobile device through-out the day at places where a Wi-Fi connection can be found; I HIGHLY recommend Yvette spamming the Gateway of Luck. On a twelve-hour day a player can gain 10-12 frogs.

Casual: For the players that have very little time to play I HIGHLY recommend that Yvette visits Fairy Falls. Although the time is longer it will yield better results for those that aren't able to be near their mobile devices or PC/laptops. At the very least, you will get 2-4 frogs a day in this manner.

Captain Pym has flexible taste buds.

More is always better except when it comes to frog oil

Ula is getting impatient by the second. She asks Yvette for advice and of course our resident animal(and dragon) lover will go off to collect more Frog Oil to put into the food. Here, we are introduced to the second crafted item that we will need to complete; the Frog Oil Souffle. Yum! o_O

Yes Ula, Frog Oil is just gross. Poor Captain Pym.

Transforming Captain Pym into a merman is not going well at all. Ula decides that eating Frog Oil is not a good idea. At this point we can imagine that Captain Pym's love for his mermaid is grand. Having to eat baked goods with the essence of a frog is a tall order of love.

Ula is full of ideas. Next she figures that wearing the Frog Oil will be the next best thing. Why the Jade clover? Accessories! Here we are introduced to the final crafted item needed; Frog Oil Pants. Back to the Places of Legend for more Frog Oil.

Too much frog oil can be bad for your health

The good news is that Captain Pym likes his new pair of pants. The bad news is that he's been in contact with so much Frog Oil he's starting to behave like a frog. Poor Ula, the path to be together is hard indeed.

The stakes are high. Too much Frog Oil might turn Captain Pym into a ribbet instead of a merman. However the reward would be great. Ula tosses caution to the wind at one last chance to transform her lover.

Now we use ALL the Frog Oil!

Keep hitting the Gateway of Luck or Fairy Falls depending on your time schedule. Eventually you will have more than enough to complete this portion of the quest. It's hard but not impossible. 

Optional Hero:

Note: If at this point you wish to have a little extra luck on your side then Zynga has the hero for you! 

Combining Yvette and Wavedancer at any of the Places of Legend: Gateway of Luck, Dragon’s Clutch, Fairy Falls, Flower Tower, Frost Owl Spire, and Crystal Citadel will yield a player really good luck at landing Frog Oil. The downside? It's 350 crowns and once the seasonal event is over then Wavedancer loses any value save as an extra hero.

Note: Now with the new hotfix added Wavedancer is simply an extra hero. 

Two free crowns, yay!

All of the antics that Ula and Captain Pym went through didn't pan out. Neither transformed but that doesn't mean they will be apart forever. 

Congratulations! You've completed Phase Two of the River Maid Event! Kiss all those frogs good-bye and say hello to your new sheep herd ---

You'll find your new sheep pasture in the Resources tab. The new sheep pasture takes 2 Oats and provides 3 Wool in 5 minutes.

Keep in mind that if you craft all the items on the progress bar before you finish the quests then you will need to buy any seasonal item you didn't collect. This is because the items will disappear from both the buildings and places of legend as soon as that quest is completed.
